Community Impact and Legacy

The Village of Grosse Pointe Shores, a Michigan City, is embarking on an ambitious capital campaign to enrich our community by building a modern, state-of-the-art swimming pool and a modern, multipurpose, year-round community center. Our current pool, once a cornerstone of our recreational facilities, has leaks, only six lanes, not user friendly with those who have special needs, has an outdated filtration system with replacement parts hard to find, and lacks the dimensions needed to host competitive swimming events. It has served us well, but reached the end of its life expectancy before the start of this century, limiting our ability to host competitive swimming events, limiting modern safety and accessibility requirements, and lacking modern amenities.

The new community center will have stunning second floor lake views and serve as a catalyst for important year-round gatherings. It will include a community kitchen for major city events, social gatherings, group exercising, classes, committee meetings, and private resident celebrations, including weddings, engagement and birthday parties, graduations, anniversaries, and holiday gatherings. Whether residents are looking for a place to celebrate, learn, stretch out, or simply enjoy time with neighbors, friends and family, the new center will provide the perfect setting. In 2024, The Village of Grosse Pointe Shores, funded by the Grosse Pointe Shores Improvement Foundation, contracted pool design experts Baruzzini Aquatics and building experts Partners in Architecture to create recommendations, drawings, estimated costs and a general timeline.

“I am thrilled to champion the Dive In capital campaign. For four generations, the Sattler family has thrived in the GPS parks, from swimming with the Sharks to making lifelong memories. Our community’s legacy — built on dedication and cherished amenities — demands enhancement. A new pool and community center will ensure future generations enjoy these same opportunities. Let’s come together and Dive In for a brighter GPS future!”

“When my husband and I chose to make GPS our home, the pool was a major factor in our decision, just as it was for my husband’s family when he was growing up here. Investing in a new pool and community center ensures GPS continues to thrive as a place where families come together, where kids learn to swim and compete, and where memories are made. I urge our community to support the Dive In campaign.”

“Improved amenities mean a better experience for everyone — from competitive swimmers to families looking to enjoy a day in the water. With modern facilities, maintenance will be easier and more cost-effective, ensuring the space stays safe and welcoming for years to come. This project also opens up better opportunities for swimmers of all levels, whether they’re learning their first strokes or training for their next big event. Most importantly, the new center will be a hub where our community can come together, connect, and thrive. Let’s ‘Dive In’ and make this vision a reality.”
